Region

The Petrikov region is a picturesque place of the Belarusian Polesie. Once seen the region with its blue rivers and mists will be never forgotten.

People living in the region are modest, hardworking, kind and hospitable.

At present the total population makes 33,4 thousand people.

The Petrikov region has worked out a number of target programs aimed at the education system development, including “Program on development of the region’s education system for 2005-2010”, programs “Talented Children”, “Personnel” and “Patriotic education”.

Five natives of the region were conferred the rank of the Hero of the Soviet Union, two became holders of the Order of Fame.

Many residents of the Petrikov region have become well-known people: Nina Mazai – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Canada, Piotr Chaus – Colonel-General, Anatoliy Rudenia – aviation Mayor-General, Ivan Bambiza – deputy prime minister of the Republic of Belarus.

Petrikov District takes part in the state program of social and economic development and comprehensive use of natural resources of Pripyat Polesie for 2010-2015.

A co-generation plant will be commissioned in 2010 to improve the heat supply of residential and public buildings and cut down on energy consumption.
