Belarus among Europe’s ten countries with most forest cover

Belarus makes it to the list of top ten forest-clad countries in Europe, Belarus’ National Statistical Committee published the data as part of its review to mark Forest Workers Day celebrated in Belarus on 15 September, BelTA has learned.

Belarus has 40.2% of its land covered with forests. Last year, the area covered with forests amounted to more than 8.3 million hectares.

Gomel Oblast is the most heavily forested area in the country. Almost half of the region is covered with forests. Vitebsk Oblast goes second. It is followed by Mogilev Oblast, Minsk Oblast, Brest Oblast and Grodno Oblast.

In 2023, there were 0.9 hectares of forest per capita in Belarus.
