Belarus' potato harvest exceeds 180,000 tonnes

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – Belarus' potato harvest has already exceeded 180,000 tonnes, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 14 September, some 7,152,700 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, was cropped in the country. This included 6,163,400 tonnes of grain and leguminous crops and over 989,300 tonnes of rapeseed.

Harvesting of corn for grain is underway in Brest Oblast, Grodno Oblast, Minsk Oblast and Gomel Oblast, with 4,920 hectares of land already cleared. Some 35,500 tonnes of grain was threshed, with the yields averaging 72.2 centners per hectare.

In addition to that, 31,100 tonnes of buckwheat (yields are 15.1 centners per hectare) and 15,200 tonnes of millet (yields reach 19.7 centners per hectare) were threshed.

The flax straw harvest reached 93,100 tonnes.

Cereal and legume straws were harvested from 79.1% of the area.

Belarusian agricultural workers have harvested some 182,100 tonnes of potatoes. The yields average 358 centners per hectare.

Sugar beet harvesting is underway in Belarus. Some 452,200 tonnes of sugar beet were removed, with the yields reaching up to 444.8 centners per hectare.
