Belarus set to increase export of medical services by 25% in 2015

13.02.2015

GOMEL, 13 February (BelTA) – Belarusian healthcare institutions were tasked to increase the export of medical services by a quarter, up to $42 million in 2015, Deputy Healthcare Minister of Belarus Vyacheslav Shilo told BelTA in Gomel on 11 February. He took part in the final session of the healthcare board of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee.

In 2014 the export of medical services exceeded $33 million, up by 8% of the plan. The export targets were hit by Minsk-based healthcare institutions and regional medical facilities. "The bulk of medical assistance provided to foreign nationals were high-tech medical services, like the replacement of hip joints, cardiac surgeries and organ transplantations," Vyacheslav Shilo noted.

According to estimates, Belarus will be able to considerably expand and diversify the export of medical services in the years to come, as the country boasts well-equipped facilities, highly qualified personnel and great customer service.

Vyacheslav Shilo believes that it is myth that foreign patients come to Belarus because of the low prices for medical services. When a person's health and life are at stake, many factors are considered. "Before making a decision to come to Belarus, foreigners carefully study all the information available about Belarusian medical institutions and the feedback of patients. In other words, they expect highly qualified doctors, advanced equipment and a good treatment result in Belarus," Vyacheslav Shilo added.
