UN’s Jean-Yves Bouchardy to visit Gomel Oblast 12-13 March

GOMEL, 13 March (BelTA) - Jean-Yves Bouchardy, Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Belarus, is expected to pay an official visit to Gomel Oblast on 12-13 March, BelTA learnt from the press service of the oblast executive committee.

The program of the trip will include a visit to the facility of temporary accommodation, psychological and social adaptation of refugees at the Gomel center of social services for families and children, the oblast organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society. Mr. Bouchardy is expected to meet with Syrian refugees as well as residents of Lugansk and Donetsk Oblasts.

On 12 March the UN representative will meet with Gomel Oblast Governor Vladimir Dvornik to discuss asylum-seekers.

Gomel center of social services for families and children is currently home to 14 Syrian refugees. According to the oblast committee on labor, employment and social security, Gomel Oblast has welcomed over 6,000 people from southeast Ukraine.
